I cooked up my own version of congee tonight using chicken broth, white rice, tiny bits of chicken and peas. I'll see tomorrow how that goes. Any other ideas on what I should have on hand? Also, I've started giving her a little plastic spoon to play/practice with while I'm also feeding her. Is she too young? I need to review my book again on what developmental skills a 12 month should have and what I need to do to teach her. Should she just be learning to pick up finger foods right now? And what about sippy cups. She's gradually figuring out what to do, but I'm worried that maybe she's not getting enough fluids. I usually give her a bottle of formula 2-3 times a day and will wait until our initial pediatrician appointment on Wednesday to figure out the plan on adding milk.
We're working on sleep issues with jet-lag and being up all night wanting to play. I wake her up from her afternoon nap, but she is not too happy about that. The stroller is my new favorite thing...put her right to sleep. Between stroller time and not eating, I may not miss my gym visits like I thought. She's so close to walking. She walked today holding just one hand.
My sister's kids came over today with my brother for a visit and all played nicely with the stacking cubes and sorting blocks. She wouldn't let anyone else hold her so that is a good sign for her attachment. She always wanted me within hand reach. She is such a happy baby, it kills me to have her go through the sleep issues and messed up clock.
Tomorrow, I think I will venture out for the first time to go do "something" so I can practice the whole carseat thing.
That's it for now...

Hey Sharon, glad to see you made it home safely (how strange is it in blog world that total strangers are commenting on your travel plans...;-). Regarding your questing on food etc I can give a few suggestions based on what my son (who is 12.5 months eats). Finger foods are great, if she hasn't been eating many you will have to be patient while she figures it out - oh and at least with our ds tossing food on the floor does not necessarily mean he does not like it though we try to not let him see us picking it up. Pita pockets split in half, filled with cheese and then toasted are great favourites around here (cooled down before eating as they get dang hot!). Peas seem to be good finger food, as is any kind of bread or biscuit - we try to limit those. Soups are loved around here though we always add some couscous to make it less messy and give some texture. A really easy one is onion, peas, mint and water/stock boiled and blitzed with the hand blender. Ds is just starting to try and use a spoon so I would think definitely try and foster that though it is messy! Also sippy cups are great, we have gone through quite a few finding ones he likes, there are some that are a cross between a bottle and sippy cup which might be easier for her. Here in the UK they say 10% juice in water for sippy cups - if you want to try a change on just plain old water.
Sorry to go on so long! Best of luck, Neyir
So glad that you guys are back in the States....I know you guys are as well. MaryAlice just looks so sweet in her own home. It is awesome that you are now starting your lives together.
Sharon you are doing a great job. I am impressed you made Congee. Just keep trying new things with her she will reject something one day and may love it the next. Sophia HATES ground beef, wont eat it everything else is game... Give her what you eat in small bits. Sophia makes a huge mess when she eats but is now using a spoon (not properly yet) when we eat and of course her fingers are the best eating implement... get yourselves out in the sunshine and fresh air it will help with the jet lag...
Sharon, keep it up! you're doing awesome!! everyday is a new mystery to solve with little ones, so what you're experiencing is totally normal. within a few weeks you'll have it all figured out! are you off from work for a while??
Look at that sweet girl in her high chair! Wow way to go making Congee...let us know how it goes over! :)HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can you believe it...you are home with your daughter!!!!!!!!!
Finger foods for sure. Our grandbaby LOVES steamed broccoli florets over everything else (how lucky is that). I also made purees for her - any veggie, a teeny potato a dash of olive oil - cooked and pureed. Yum. But she needed my daughter to feed her (which, btw is recommended for bonding of adopted children to mommy through 18 months). So I would give her some finger foods and definitely feed her part of the meal for bonding purposes!
Your ped will also give you great info on Wednesday. She is too too too cute!
Boy how quickly I've forgotten what T was eating at this time. I do, though, remember bananas...either baby food or the real thing, cut up small.
So glad you're both home safely.
Sharon
Just know that you have to introduce a food up to 20+ times in order for kids to get used to it. So - if MA doesn't like it the first time - then try it again and again and again.
My kids loved Progresso Minestrone soup. Snuck those veggies in without them knowing it.
If you need help with the car seat - Russell is on standby. He said he can be at your house in 30 minutes to install the car seat crank.
